Pep Guardiola offers bizarre explanation for his scratched face after Man City squander three-goal lead in Champions League draw with Feyenoord.

Pep Guardiola explained the cut on his nose following Manchester City’s dramatic 3-3 Champions League draw with Feyenoord, a result that extended their winless streak to six games.

Arriving at the Etihad Stadium with a noticeable scratch on his nose, Guardiola later revealed during a press conference, “I cut it with my finger,” before jokingly adding, “I want to hurt myself.” The City manager ended the night in further frustration after watching his team squander a 3-0 lead.

Despite early goals from Erling Haaland (2) and Ilkay Gundogan putting City in control, defensive errors allowed Feyenoord to stage a stunning comeback, scoring three times in the final 15 minutes. Josko Gvardiol, who struggled in a previous match against Tottenham, was at fault for two of the goals. However, Guardiola defended the young defender, saying, “He is so young. He will learn. I would be so wrong to point the finger. He’s a fantastic boy, and now more than ever, he needs help.”

The collapse marked the first time since May 1989 that City failed to win after holding a three-goal lead. Reflecting on the game, Guardiola admitted, “At 3-0, I could not see any danger. The game is never over, but I didn’t see this coming.”

City now face a crucial Premier League clash with leaders Liverpool on Sunday. A loss at Anfield, where they haven’t won since 2003 (excluding the 2020-21 pandemic season), would leave them 11 points adrift, a deficit Guardiola has acknowledged would be nearly impossible to overcome.
