Barcelona have been dealt a major injury setback as goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to undergo surgery for a ruptured knee tendon.
The Catalan side secured a commanding 5-1 victory at Estadio de la Ceramica, bouncing back from their UEFA Champions League defeat to Monaco and maintaining their perfect record in La Liga this season. Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha each scored twice, with Pablo Torre adding another, while Ayoze Perez’s lone goal for the hosts was little consolation.
Despite the impressive win, the night was marred by ter Stegen’s injury. After making a brilliant save in a one-on-one with Nicolas Pepe, the German keeper was hurt during the following corner in what seemed like a minor incident.
Ter Stegen caught the ball but was visibly in pain after landing awkwardly with his right foot planted in the turf. His teammates quickly signaled for medical attention, and he was stretchered off the field.
Barcelona confirmed that ter Stegen suffered a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee and will require surgery, though no official timeline has been given for his recovery.
