Gasperini Hails Lookman’s Impact on Atalanta’s Success.
Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has highlighted Ademola Lookman as a pivotal figure in the club’s resurgence and recent achievements.
La Dea ended a six-decade trophy drought last season by winning the UEFA Europa League, their first title since the 1962/63 campaign. Lookman was instrumental in that success, delivering a historic performance with a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, who were unbeaten in the Bundesliga at the time.
Building on that triumph, Atalanta has carried their momentum into the current Serie A season. The team is in second place, just one point behind league leaders Napoli. Lookman’s exceptional form has been central to their strong start, with the Nigerian winger tallying nine goals and five assists in 15 matches across all competitions.
Lookman’s consistency has also brought individual recognition. He finished 14th in the Ballon d’Or rankings, is in contention for the FIFA Best Awards, and is the favorite to win the CAF Player of the Year award, which will be announced on December 16.
Speaking to the media, Gasperini praised Lookman’s influence both on and off the field. “We are in a good period of form in Italy and Europe. I’m happy with the performances and results we are achieving,” Gasperini said.
“Winning the Europa League last season gave us confidence and belief. While many new players are improving and contributing, it was last season’s success, led by players like Lookman, that set the foundation for where we are now.”
With Lookman maintaining his impressive form, Atalanta looks set for another outstanding campaign.
