Frank Lampard: Coventry City hire former Chelsea and Everton manager to succeed Mark Robins.

Frank Lampard has been named the new head coach of Coventry City, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract to replace Mark Robins, who was dismissed earlier this month after nearly eight years in charge. During his tenure, the 54-year-old Robins guided Coventry from League Two to the Championship, reaching the 2022/23 play-off final and last season’s FA Cup semi-finals. Coventry currently sit 17th in the Championship.

Lampard, 46, has been out of management since leaving Chelsea for a second time in 2023, where he served as interim manager following Graham Potter’s dismissal. Speaking at his unveiling on Thursday, the former England midfielder expressed enthusiasm for the new challenge, stating he feels “refreshed and ready to go.”

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here,” Lampard said. “Coventry is a club I have huge respect for, with a rich history and tradition. I grew up in an era when Coventry were very successful, so being appointed head coach is a big honor for me.

“The work Mark [Robins] did here and the ambition Doug King is showing at the top of the club are exciting. It’s clear the club wants to move forward, and I want to do everything I can to help achieve that.” Said Frank Lampard.
