Barcelona’s Dani Olmo: “El Clásico is the top match in Europe”
Dani Olmo is set to make his senior debut in El Clásico this weekend. The recent FC Barcelona signing previously faced Real Madrid as an RB Leipzig player, but this will be his first time wearing the Catalan colors in the iconic fixture.
In a television interview, Olmo noted, “In a match like this, there are no favorites.”
Heading into the Santiago Bernabéu, Barcelona hold a three-point lead over Real Madrid. Although early in the season, this top-of-the-table clash is already seen as pivotal in the title race. A Real Madrid victory would temporarily place them at the top, while a Barcelona win would give them a six-point advantage.
“El Clásico is the best match that can be played in La Liga and in Europe,” Olmo remarked. “We believe we can beat them with our approach, and we’re ready to prove it.”
With a record of one win, one draw, and one loss against Real Madrid from his time at Leipzig, Olmo has since made three league appearances for Barcelona after his summer move. A Barça academy product, Olmo had long been linked with a return to Catalonia, and his role in Spain’s UEFA European Championship win contributed to Barça’s eagerness to secure his transfer.
Having recently recovered from injury, Olmo made his comeback in Barcelona’s 4-1 win over FC Bayern Munich.
