Man United Finalize £45m Transfer After Granting Marcus Rashford’s ‘Personal Request’
Time is running out for Manchester United to wrap up their January transfer business, with Ruben Amorim’s side yet to secure a single first-team signing this month.
Patrick Dorgu appears close to completing a £30 million move from Lecce. Despite being included in the squad for Lecce’s 3-1 victory over Parma on Friday, the 20-year-old remained an unused substitute on the bench. Reports suggest Dorgu is set to travel to Manchester over the weekend for a medical.
While United could still bring in reinforcements before Monday’s 11 p.m. deadline, their focus may shift toward player sales. Marcus Rashford remains a key topic of transfer speculation, with Barcelona reportedly his preferred destination. Aston Villa, however, have now entered the race for the forward, who has fallen out of favor at Old Trafford.
Personal Request
According to The Athletic, Villa manager Unai Emery personally requested the club pursue Rashford. The 27-year-old is reportedly eager to leave United after missing the last 12 matches under Amorim.
While Rashford is said to dream of a move to Barcelona or staying at United until season’s end, Villa are keen to secure him on loan. Emery appears determined to bring the forward to Villa Park after losing Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr.
The Manchester Evening News (MEN) notes that this move could benefit both parties, highlighting Emery’s strong track record of revitalizing players’ careers. With Villa needing an attacker, Rashford could see ample game time. However, whether he will accept Villa’s offer remains uncertain.
Garnacho Price Drop
United have reportedly reduced their asking price for Alejandro Garnacho to £45 million, down from £60 million, in hopes of offloading him before the transfer window closes, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Tottenham, Napoli, and Chelsea are among the clubs interested in the 18-year-old winger, though with the deadline approaching, a transfer looks increasingly unlikely.
MEN argues that selling Garnacho at £45 million is a mistake, given his age, talent, and potential. While a bid closer to £80 million might be acceptable, letting him go now without sufficient time to find a replacement could be a poor decision for United.
