OFFICIAL: Amorim Secures €60m Signing for Man Utd

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, but Ruben Amorim has been quietly pushing forward with another transfer in the background.

The Portuguese manager is reportedly set to raid his former club, Sporting CP, to secure 17-year-old winger Geovany Quenda in a deal worth at least €60 million. According to A Bola, the agreement is already finalized, with United having “snapped up” the young talent.

United’s interest in Quenda predates Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford. However, even if they intended to sign him immediately, regulations prevent Quenda from leaving Portugal until he turns 18 on April 30.

Despite this restriction, Amorim’s move to Manchester United is said to have intensified the club’s pursuit of the promising winger.

David Ornstein of The Athletic has suggested that while United are exploring the move, no formal offer has been made. He noted that the club aims to negotiate a deal closer to €40 million, significantly less than the figure reported in Portugal.

Quenda is currently under contract with Sporting until 2027, with a release clause set at €100 million. Sporting had hoped to drive the transfer price closer to that mark, but it appears the agreed fee will include bonuses and a sell-on clause for future transfers.

Tactically, Amorim views Quenda as a key player for his 3-4-3 formation at United. Although initially deployed as a right winger under Amorim, Quenda has since adapted to playing on the left, showcasing versatility that will benefit the Red Devils.

This season, Quenda has registered two goals and six assists across 34 appearances for Sporting. His ability to operate on both wings adds significant value to Manchester United’s attacking options.
