FIFA Club World Cup to Introduce Referee Body Cameras for Live Broadcast.

FIFA is set to make history at the 2025 Club World Cup by introducing referee body cameras for live broadcasts, providing fans with a unique, real-time view from the officials’ perspective. Integrated into the referees’ headsets, these cameras will offer fresh angles of goals, fouls, and key moments — marking a first for any FIFA tournament.

Although the technology has been tested in grassroots football in England to combat abuse and used in documentaries in Germany and the Premier League, this will be its debut in an official global competition. The IFAB has granted approval for the technology’s trial in professional matches to assess its potential for future use.

“This is an exciting opportunity to deliver a new viewing experience for fans and improve referee training,” said Pierluigi Collina, Chairman of FIFA’s Referees Committee. “Understanding the referee’s perspective is essential in debriefs to analyze decision-making.”

UEFA officials chosen to officiate the U.S.-based tournament have undergone rigorous training in seminars held in Zurich, Dubai, and Buenos Aires. Collina highlighted that FIFA is closely monitoring their fitness and preparedness to maintain the highest standards of officiating.

“This is the first time we are bringing together the top clubs from every continent,” Collina noted. “It’s a huge responsibility for referees. Our aim is to ensure Team One is fully prepared when the match kicks off in Miami.”
