England manager Tuchel meets with Prince William.
England manager Thomas Tuchel met the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, as he prepares to lead the national team into the World Cup qualifying campaign in March.
Prince William, who became patron of the Football Association last year after previously serving as FA president, was eager to learn about Tuchel’s vision for England. A passionate Aston Villa fan, William has been a regular presence at England matches.
Kensington Palace shared an image of the Prince and Tuchel shaking hands, accompanied by the message: “Great to meet with new England men’s manager Thomas Tuchel today, and hear about plans for the team.”
Tuchel officially took charge of England on January 1 after being appointed as Gareth Southgate’s successor last October. The 51-year-old, formerly in charge of Chelsea and Bayern Munich, is the third non-British permanent manager of the national team, following Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
Accompanied by FA chief executive Mark Bullingham, Tuchel will name his first England squad next month for World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia at Wembley.
England are seeking their first major trophy since winning the 1966 World Cup, having fallen short in two European Championship finals under Southgate.
