Arsenal Must Part Ways with Mikel Arteta After West Ham Defeat – His Time Is Up.
Arsenal Must Dismiss Mikel Arteta This Summer to Be Serious Premier League Contenders
If Arsenal want to be taken seriously in next season’s Premier League title race, they must part ways with Mikel Arteta following their disappointing defeat to West Ham on Saturday.
For years, the Gunners have come close but failed to get over the line, finishing second to Manchester City in consecutive seasons under Arteta. With City struggling by their own high standards this term, the opportunity was there for Arsenal to finally claim their first league title since the 2003/04 campaign.
However, with Liverpool now looking likely to capitalize instead, Arsenal’s latest setback against West Ham highlights Arteta’s shortcomings. Despite being at the helm for five-and-a-half seasons, the Spanish manager has only one major trophy to show for it—the FA Cup from his debut season in 2019/20.
Given the talent at his disposal—players like Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and William Saliba—this lack of silverware is underwhelming. It becomes even more concerning when factoring in Arsenal’s near-£1 billion spending spree in this period, the fifth-highest in the Premier League.
While Arteta deserves credit for improving the squad, he must also be held accountable for failing to deliver major success. Injuries have played a role, but this season represented a golden chance, with City and other top clubs struggling for consistency.
Instead, Arsenal appear to be stagnating under Arteta. Poor recruitment and inconsistent performances have cost them dearly, and patience among fans is wearing thin. Despite his recent contract extension, the club should now consider bringing in a proven winner to take them to the next level—if they truly want to establish themselves as serious title contenders.
