Arsenal Given Key Update on Viktor Gyökeres as ‘Preferred’ Premier League Move Looms

Viktor Gyökeres is expected to leave Sporting Lisbon at the end of the season and has reportedly pinpointed his preferred Premier League destination. Linked with a move to English football, Gyökeres is said to have shortlisted three Premier League clubs as potential suitors for the summer transfer window.

However, his former club, Manchester United, does not feature in the forward’s list of preferred destinations, according to sources in Portugal. Although Gyökeres is still under contract with Sporting Lisbon, reports suggest that he could be available for a fee lower than his €100 million (£84 million) release clause.

The 26-year-old is believed to have a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting, which could allow him to depart for around €70 million (£59 million). According to predictions from football expert Hulk, Gyökeres’ preference would be a move to Liverpool, Arsenal, or Manchester City, should he make the switch to England. His departure from Lisbon appears highly likely at the season’s end.

While the Premier League remains his desired destination, other top European clubs are also keeping a close eye on his situation. Gyökeres is reportedly open to offers from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich if he chooses to leave England behind.

Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the striker’s situation over the weekend, suggesting that Sporting could accept a transfer fee between €65 million and €75 million. “That’s a very good price for one of the best strikers in Europe in terms of numbers,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “All the top clubs in Europe are going very strong for Gyökeres in the summer, and I’ve been informed this price could be enough to secure him. Many clubs are exploring the situation and are ready to present their project to Viktor Gyökeres.”

Despite being under contract until 2028 at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, Sporting is reportedly resigned to Gyökeres’ departure this summer, after rejecting bids for the forward during the winter transfer window.
