Arne Slot cites Liverpool’s ‘mistakes’ as the cause of defeat, with Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson handing Fulham goals in dramatic comeback.

Arne Slot attributed Liverpool’s defeat at Fulham to errors made in the first half, while still praising his team’s overall performance.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Defensive mistakes by Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson in the first half ultimately cost Liverpool as they fell 3-2 to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday. The Reds took an early lead through Alexis Mac Allister, but Fulham responded with three goals in just 14 minutes. Diogo Jota scored for Liverpool in the second half, but it was Marco Silva’s side who held on for the win.

WHAT ARNE SLOT SAID
In an interview with Sky Sports after the match, Slot reflected: “That was a difficult 14-minute spell, where we conceded three goals. While Fulham’s quality and finishing were part of it, the main issue was our own errors. We don’t usually make that many mistakes, let alone three in one game.
“Our second-half performance was much better, but conceding three goals in the first half made it difficult to win. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to score a third. People want to create narratives, which is their job. Many teams struggle against Fulham. The second half was outstanding—we had chances, but ran out of time.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE
In his post-match press conference, the Dutch manager defended his team’s efforts, stating: “Overall, I think we played well. We prepared for the match considering the way it unfolded—starting one way and finishing another. We played a tough game on Thursday, and with 24 hours less rest than Fulham, it was always going to be difficult.
“It’s a tricky stadium, tricky game. The weather was sunny, and the dry pitch meant they tried to slow the tempo. But for me, it was a complete game. Despite the loss, I think we did enough to win. We had more than 20 shots, and the only thing we missed was the goal. Overall, I’m happy with the performance.”

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?
Despite the defeat, Liverpool maintain an 11-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, thanks to Arsenal’s draw with Everton on Saturday. Their next match is against West Ham at Anfield on April 13.
