Nigerian Table Tennis Star Aruna Eyes Redemption Against Kallberg in World Cup Decider

Quadri Aruna, Nigeria’s table tennis sensation, is determined to snap his losing streak against Sweden’s Anton Kallberg when the two clash on April 16 in a decisive Group 16 showdown at the 2025 ITTF World Cup in Macao, China.

Aruna, who has fallen short in their last three meetings, is eager to flip the script this time. Despite nursing a hamstring injury, he kicked off his campaign with a solid 3-1 victory over Benin Republic’s Abdel-Kader Salifou in his opening match.

Now, all eyes are on Aruna’s highly anticipated face-off with Kallberg, who remains unbeaten against the Nigerian and is keen to extend his winning run.

“I will prepare. It’s one match after the other. I plan to relax on Tuesday, April 15 and see how it goes. I lost to him in our last three meetings, but I hope to get my revenge this time,” Aruna shared.

On his part, Kallberg looked sharp in a commanding 4-0 win over Salifou, setting the stage for a thrilling finale in the group. Reflecting on the upcoming match, the Swedish ace said:

“We’ve played quite often in the last few years and know each other well. I’ll review our past matches and prepare accordingly.”
