Ruben Amorim Unfazed by Man Utd Criticism but Admits Costly Errors in Heavy Newcastle Defeat

Ruben Amorim has brushed off criticism aimed at Manchester United following their crushing 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United, insisting he “does not care” about outside opinions. However, the head coach admitted his side made too many mistakes that ultimately cost them at St James’ Park.

United were punished repeatedly for their defensive lapses, with Newcastle taking full advantage of the visitors’ errors in a dominant display on Sunday. While Amorim tried to downplay the result, he was candid about his team’s shortcomings.

What Ruben Amorim Said

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Amorim said:
“Many mistakes. Newcastle were stronger on second balls. We made a lot of errors that made it much harder to win. It’s a bit of everything — it’s hard to pinpoint one issue. Against top teams like Newcastle, if we help the opponent with our mistakes, it becomes nearly impossible.”

He added, “Let’s focus on Thursday. You can see that we’re capable of much more. We need to learn from today — we simply can’t repeat these mistakes.”

Addressing the growing criticism surrounding United’s form, Amorim remained defiant:
“I understand, but I don’t care. Losing games is the hardest part of this job, and nothing people say makes it worse. Our position in the table says it all. I’m not here to defend myself — we just need to focus on Thursday.”

Since Amorim’s appointment in November, United have slipped further down the Premier League table, now sitting in 14th place — a stark decline from their already poor start in 12th. This season is on course to be their worst in Premier League history, leaving the Europa League as their only realistic shot at silverware.

United will need to bounce back quickly as they prepare to host Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday, following a 2-2 draw in the first leg in France.
