Chelle Leads NPFL Duo and Backroom Staff to Kigali.
Coach Eric Sekou Chelle led the first group of the Super Eagles’ contingent to Kigali on Thursday ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Group C leaders, Rwanda, scheduled for Friday.
Joining Chelle on the trip were two players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL): goalkeeper Kayode Bankole of Remo Stars and midfielder Papa Daniel from Niger Tornadoes. Also part of the delegation were the team’s backroom staff and Nigerian assistant coaches.
“The two home-based players, along with the Nigerian assistant coaches and backroom staff, are expected to arrive in Kigali today,” an official told NationSports. “Most of the players will start arriving by Monday.”
Meanwhile, SCORENigeria reported that the Radisson Blu Hotel in Kigali, reserved by the NFF for the Super Eagles, will be buzzing with a full house of call-ups tonight. Officials confirmed that Moses Simon, who played for FC Nantes on Saturday night to dispel any injury concerns, along with Igho Ogbu, Stanley Nwabali, Joe Aribo, Raphael Onyedika, Victor Osimhen, and William Ekong, are all expected to arrive in Rwanda today.
“The last player is expected to arrive on Tuesday, allowing the team to have at least three full training sessions,” a team official said.
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda on Friday evening before returning to Uyo to play Zimbabwe on Tuesday, March 25, as the 2026 World Cup qualifiers continue.
