Arne Slot press conference: The key reason Liverpool’s win over Wolves was so ‘important’
Arne Slot Hails Liverpool’s Mental Resilience in Crucial Wolves Victory
Arne Slot praised Liverpool’s mental toughness following their hard-fought 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday.
First-half goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah helped the Reds maintain their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League, but a curling strike from Matheus Cunha in the second half set up a tense finish.
Reflecting on the victory, Slot emphasized the psychological challenge his team faced, especially after their late setback against Everton earlier in the week.
“There was relief at the end, especially after what happened on Wednesday. Conceding a late goal in that match was frustrating, and it could have had an impact going forward. After Wolves pulled one back, you could see that in our mindset,” he admitted.
The Dutchman also acknowledged the difficulty of consistently securing wins, particularly with Liverpool’s intense fixture schedule.
“People assume it’s easy because we have Mo Salah, but it’s incredibly tough to win games every three days. That’s why victories like this matter so much,” Slot explained.
He also defended his decision to substitute Ibrahima Konaté after the defender picked up a yellow card, citing the risk of a second booking in a physical contest.
Meanwhile, Slot highlighted the contributions of Jarell Quansah and Wataru Endo, praising their performances as essential to the team’s success.
“Of course, you need goals from players like Mo and Lucho, but you also need guys like Jarell and Wata stepping up when it matters,” he added.
Looking ahead to a challenging week, Slot hopes Liverpool can maintain the same mentality while improving their play on the ball.
