Following the Reds’ unexpected 1-0 loss in the fourth round on Sunday, the incoming Match of the Day co-host described their performance as “lowkey.” Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast, Cates quipped, “There were goals in that team. It was just such a low-key display. I think it’s either a minor setback in a great season or the beginning of the end — this might be remembered as the turning point!”
Despite the shock exit, Slot’s impressive leadership continues to shine. Liverpool currently lead the Premier League, are performing strongly in the Champions League, and have secured a spot in the Carabao Cup final, making it unlikely that this loss signals a downward spiral for the former Feyenoord manager.
The Reds will aim to recover quickly as they prepare for a crucial Premier League clash against rivals Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
