Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes revealed key insights on Monday during a press conference, discussing how head coach Carlo Ancelotti has stressed the importance of collective defensive effort, particularly from attacking players, to elevate the team’s overall performance.
“The boss spoke to us. We’ve realized how crucial it is to set an example. When the players at the back see the forwards running and defending, they understand that we’re all in it together,” Rodrygo shared ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League round of 16 clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
This defensive mindset played a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s second-half comeback during their recent match against Atlético Madrid.
Rodrygo also highlighted the team’s mentality during last season’s success in Manchester, which will be essential for a favorable result this time. Despite Manchester City’s dominance in possession, Rodrygo expressed confidence in Real Madrid’s ability to control the game. He acknowledged the challenges of playing at the Etihad, particularly due to Pep Guardiola’s high-pressing tactics.
On his future, Rodrygo reaffirmed his long-term commitment to Real Madrid, dismissing speculation about potential offers from Saudi Arabia. He noted that any transfer discussions are handled by his father, who is also his agent.
