Israel Adesanya Suffers Third Straight Loss, Second Career KO Defeat

Former two-time UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya endured his third consecutive defeat and second career knockout loss on Saturday night, falling to Nassourdine Imavov via second-round TKO in the main event of UFC Fight Night 250 in Saudi Arabia, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.

The Nigerian-born New Zealander entered the fight seeking to end his first-ever losing streak, having surrendered his title to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 before suffering another setback against Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305 last August. However, the 35-year-old’s comeback attempt was decisively cut short by the surging French contender.

Adesanya made a promising start, delivering powerful low kicks that visibly disrupted Imavov’s lead leg. Trouble arose late in the first round when Imavov connected with a stiff shovel hook that snapped Adesanya’s head back. Despite absorbing a heavy right hand in the final moments, Adesanya managed to weather the storm.

The end came swiftly in the second round. Imavov, riding a three-fight winning streak, floored Adesanya with a crushing right hand. He followed up with a left uppercut and a relentless series of ground strikes, forcing referee Marc Goddard to intervene and stop the bout.

Before the fight, Adesanya dismissed concerns about his future, stating to Stake.com, “I’m always in the title picture. That’s because I’m Israel Adesanya, and I’ve done so much in this game. The belt always comes back around; I’m just doing what I love.”

The loss marked the first time in six years and 12 bouts that Adesanya fought without a UFC title on the line. His professional record now stands at 24 wins, including 16 knockouts, and 4 defeats in his 13-year MMA career.

For Imavov (15-4), this victory was the most significant of his career, potentially positioning him for a title shot after previous wins over Roman Dolidze, Jared Cannonier, and Brendan Allen.

Adesanya’s future remains uncertain, particularly after sparking speculation by humorously referring to himself as a “gatekeeper” in recent comments.
