Madan Lal: Rohit Sharma’s Form Impacting Captaincy After Australia’s Dominant Win

Former cricketer Madan Lal has expressed concerns over Rohit Sharma’s declining form, suggesting it is beginning to affect his leadership. This follows India’s crushing 10-wicket defeat against Australia in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Adelaide Oval, marking Rohit’s fourth consecutive loss as Test captain.

Rohit’s return to the Indian team has been marked by a string of underwhelming performances, with the pink ball once again troubling the visitors. Despite his earlier heroics leading India to victory against England, Rohit’s batting has been subdued since, with lackluster outings against Bangladesh and New Zealand preceding this series.

In Adelaide, Rohit managed just nine runs across both innings, batting at number six while KL Rahul, who looked more composed in the first Test at Perth, took the opening spot.

“Questions will be raised about his form. He’s a top-class player, but you have to score runs,” Madan Lal told ANI. He emphasized that no matter the position Rohit plays in, delivering runs is critical to maintaining confidence in his abilities and silencing critics.

“When your form is poor, it can reflect on your captaincy,” Lal added. “Form is just one good innings away, but he must score runs because his contributions are vital.”

Rohit’s recent statistics highlight his struggles: in India’s 3-0 home series sweep over New Zealand, he scored only 91 runs across three Tests, averaging 15.17. Against Bangladesh, he fared even worse, managing just 42 runs in two matches with an average of 10.50.

With the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the horizon, Rohit will be eager to rediscover his touch and lead from the front, as India looks to bounce back in the series.
